United States Navy Training Film - Personnel Damage Control, Bomb Blast and Burns (:09-:45). REEL 1: Aftermath of a bomb blast to a building. Explosions in a wooded area. A diagram of a typical explosion near a house, shown in regular time and then slowed down to show the effects. A closer view of the blast slowed down. An animated military soldier standing and one laying on the ground, fragments flying at them shows who's in danger more. Besides the shrapnel, a violent blast of air also occurs. The air may knock a man out due to the force, causing internal injuries (:46-4:02). Animated building having been bombed. Safest place for a man is laying on the ground, behind cover if possible. Troops running through a field as bomb blasts explode around them. A soldier falls to the ground and is attended to by another. One soldier looks at the injured man and tends to his wounds by opening a powered packet and sprinkling it on him. A bandage is applied carefully. The injured man's helmet is undone (4:03-6:16). An injured man wanders about a field in a dazed condition before being assisted and made to lie down and stay down by another uninjured soldier. Morphine is administered to the injured man (6:17-7:16) REEL 2: A fire's flames are out of control at a building. Clothing can protect against burns, affected area vs an unaffected area when wearing clothes. Diagram of outer layer of skin and deeper layer. First degree burn causes reddening of the skin, like sunburn. Second degree burn can cause blisters. Third degree burns destroys the living cells of the skin. A burned man is laid out. Another uninjured man tends to him, opens his shirt. A blanket is used to cover him and keep him from going into shock. Morphine is administered to the injured man in part of his arm that doesn't have a burn. Three men put the man on a gurney and get him to safety (7:17-10:36). A group of men rows a boat while a burned man is covered with whatever is available. The burned clothing is pulled away and burn jelly is administered to the burn to assist with healing. Fasten the jelly with a bandage. Men continue to row (10:37-12:19). End credits (12:20-12:45). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
