Upham visited China and lived there from 1922 to 1927, during which time he attempted to make a long feature travelogue entitled "Pieces of China". Apparently Upham did many private screenings in Hollywood but could not get distribution for the film. The original, full-length version is now considered lost. This short, which was released by the Kodak Film Library, is quite extraordinary in that it shows many rare vistas of China, and at a particularly important moment in time.
