It dates to 1953-54 and shows the cruise of the USS Yorktown (CVA-10) and activities of Fighter Squadron 24 and Carrier Air Group 2 (CVG-2). It also shows a visit to South Korea in the immediate wake of the cease fire. Yorktown was re-activated for this cruise as a result of the Korean War, but did not arrive in theater in time to see combat. This deployment to the Western Pacific was from August 3, 1953 to March 3, 1954. The squadrons that were part of CVG-2 were: VF-24: Corsairs, F9F-6 Cougars VF-63: Fighting Redcocks, F9F-5 VF-64: Free Lancers, F9F-5 VA-65: Fist of the Fleet, Douglas AD-4B/4NA Skyraiders . After a storied career in WWII, the Yorktown was modernized in the 1950s to operate jet aircraft. It was decommissioned in 1970 and is now the centerpiece of the Patriots Point Naval &amp; Maritime Museum in Charleston, SC. The film begins with images of the ship departing Hawaii and heading to Yokosuka, Japan. At 1:36, an F3D Skyknight with wings folded sits on deck. At 2:24, Japanese female dancers with parasols greet the ship. At 2:55, a group of civilians are shown repairing a street, possibly from WWII damage. The group includes both male and female workers. At 3:19, an America man in a suit walks through the streets of Yokosuka. A Japanese artist is seen painting a landscape at 3;41. A rickshaw ride is shown, and at 4;43 what might be Mt. Fuji is visible in the distance. At 4:47 the crew has fun with new rangefinder cameras bought in Japan. At 5:10 the U.S. naval jack flies on the ship. At 6:05, a  C-124 Globemaster ferries some crew members to South Korea. At 7:42, what appears to be a visit to the DMZ or demilitarized zone in Korea, with a command post visible. At 8:50, medals are presented to members of the Army at the C.P. At 9:06, an Infantry Division Band (hard to make out the #) parades as part of the ceremony. At 9:44 a mortar is shown to the camera. At 10:00, a group of infantry walk across snowy terrain. Tanks are also shown. At 11:04 a Black or African American mortarman fires a round. At 11:19 another Black soldier poses for the camera. At 11:37 the Transient Bachelor Officer's Quarters is shown. At 12:11 American fighter jets make a pass over the base. At 12:18 Navy pilots are shown with A1 Skyraiders and SBD Dauntless. At 13:05 an SBD Dauntless in flight. At 13:09, USS Yorktown at sea as the flight of aircraft approaches for landing. At 13:49, images of sampans in Hong Kong harbor as the ship makes a port of call. Images of local inhabitants children, etc. At 17:00, the Haw Par Mansion in Hong Kong. At 18:56, the Yorktown at sea with aircraft stacked on the flight deck. At 19:53, a helicopter lands on deck. At 20:22, a Navy sailor with an 8mm movie camera takes home movies on a tripod. At 21:18, A1 Skyraiders are shown parked on the deck of the ship. At 21:41, a sign for the 41st Fighter Interceptor Squadron Major James Stewart, Commander is visible. At 21:45, stunning images of Mt. Fuji from the air. At 22:59, a Japanese "Baka Bomb" aka Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka is shown on a pylon. At 23:42, an F-86 Sabre is shown. At 23:57 a sign, "Stop Look We Paid for This Ride Paddy Twice in 1952 Due to Crashes"  At 24:36, a Grumman F-9 Cougar is shown landing and taxiing. A refueling at sea with USS Stockham (DD-683), a Fletcher-class destroyer in the van. At 26:18, pilot J.A. Ingram sits in cockpit of his aircraft. Snow is shown on the deck of the Yorktown. At 27:16, Grumman F-9 Cougar on the deck with wings folded and an F9F Panther. At 28:13, a Sikorsky H-5 helicopter is shown followed by flight deck operations. At 29:41, Commander R.W. Windsor Jr. is shown followed by Lt.G.C. Watkins. (WIndsor at one point held the U.S. national speed record for aircraft.) At 35:22, an "air show" with a plane trailing smoke performing over the ship. At 36:07 Landing Signal Officer (LSO) at work. At 36:38, a Grumman S2F Tracker lands on the ship. At 37:30, wrecked planes are seen on the ship, the result of landing accidents or taxiing issues. At 38;32, a Skyraider is shown landing on the ship. At 42:11 as the film draws to a close, damaged aircraft are seen being removed from the ship by a crane. At 42:55 the Golden Gate Bridge and home are visible.
