It is one of the major European Rivers beginning in the southeastern section of the Swiss Alps. The film was produced by Walter Kägi and Zurich Productions (:17) with cinematography by R. Angst and F. Vlasak, and commentary by R.A. Langford (:34). Ships bob in the Rhine waters near the Rotterdam port (:54). The coastline of Rotterdam appears (1:11). The Swiss Alps; the origin of the Rhine, appears (1:24). Streams merge to form lake Thomas (1:31). Waters move down the valley (1:46). A Swiss child blows a horn (2:24). Livestock runs down to pasture (2:33). A farmer works along the mountain slope (2:51). A waterwheel works hard (2:53) at a flax mill. The interior of a mountain farming folk’s home appears dressed in wood (3:21). Intricate hand carved doors and upholstery speak of ancient tradition (3:25). The camera pans over an upland valley of Rothenthurm embanked by the Alps (3:45). Mountains and lush trees line the Rhine (3:53). The monastery of Disentis (4:10) appears. A train runs in front of the countryside (4:13). Another angle captures the white monastery from above (4:10). Rubble left by the river current is removed (4:34) by a man operated crane. An aerial view captures a village nestled near the Rhine (5:04). Housing is situated on the left bank of the Rhine (5:09). A covered bridge leads to the village of Illanz (5:17). Above this village are incredible rock formations (5:23). A pair ride up the mountain slope for a view (5:28). The wooden well in Valendas (5:42) appears. Clouds gather and winds spiral as a storm rolls in (5:59). Rain falls adding to the Rhine (6:40). Water trickles down the rocky mountain slope (8:05). Rhine waters rush by (8:27). Lake Thomas is pictured (8:38). A train cuts above the camera (9:13) and along the Alps. Waterfalls rush down the mountain (9:56). A wide shot captures two bridges running over the river (10:41). An aerial shot shows the city (10:47). Altstadt Church rises in the center of the screen (10:56). A woman walks through cobblestoned streets (10:58). Narrow alleyways (11:02) and oxen are pictured walking before local stores (11:06). An aerial shot captures the village surrounded by mountains (11:11). The monastery is pictured again with a fountain nestled in the center of town (11:24). Traditional Ins appear (11:28) ready for local travelers. Locals enjoy alcoholic beverages (11:44). The Tamina Gorge in Pfäfers, Switzerland(11:58). A spring rises to the surface (12:04). The town of Bad Ragaz (12:17) is captured in an aerial view. The nearby city of Liechtenstein follows (12:27). The Rhine connects this town, Austria and Switzerland (12:33). The smallest town is known as Werdenberg (12:53). An aerial view pans over the country and Rhine (13:19) empting into the Lake of Constance (13:24). A stunning view from the water follows the coastline displaying the city’s architecture (14:01). The city of Steckborn is situated along the south western arm of Lake Constance (14:31). Hotel Krone (14:32) and Lowen appear awaiting travelers (14:40). Canoes float in the waters (14:47). The center of Stein am Rhein (14:53) appears near another hotel. The fortress of the Munot was erected in the 16th century (15:09) in the town of Schaffhausen. The Rhine falls over the rocks of the Rhine falls (15:24). A vineyard grows along the banks of the waters (15:49). Two bridges run over (15:56). The waters of the Aare flow into the Rhine (16:08). A man drags up a net of fish (16:18). Derricks of the salt works follow (16:21) in the city of Rheinfelden in the canton of Aargau. Buildings within the city are captured (16:31). A crane is put to work in the upper reaches of the Rhine (17:09). The young Swiss boy blows his horn again (17:30). Livestock run through town (17:38).  The watermill churns at the flax mill (17:58). The film begins to wrap up as the bubbling waters run over the country (18:06) ending at the shores of the North Sea (18:29).
