The story of Nylon, its production, and the multiplicity of its uses is cleverly told through a nuclear American family in the 1950s. In the promotional film, the father of the family works in the Nylon business and through his staged interactions and conversations with his family, he tells the story of the scientific development of Nylon and how it has been developed into a variety of revolutionary products. This film was produced by Apex Film Corporation and Jack Chertok and directed by William J. Thiele. Charles Russel and Louise Currie star in this advertisement film along with Bobby Hyatt and Dianne Perrine. 00:06 Opening titles: Dupont’s logo appears 00:14 Opening title: “Nylon Division presents” 00:018 Opening title: “This is Nylon” 00:27 Cast credits: “featuring Charles Russell and Louise Currie with Bobby Hyatt and Diane Perrine” 1:02 Women checking appearance in in mirror 1:07 Clothes tag reads ‘made of Dupont Nylon’ 01:21 Man and wife converse in window 1:49 Child hands her father a hose made of Nylon 1:53 Close up of Nylon hose 2:07 Child jumping on Nylon lounge chair being sprayed by the hose 2:25 Young boy climbing in tree 2:50 Mother and father with their two children 2:59 Father sitting on Nylon chair 3:37 Young women in an 1950s chemistry laboratory 3:45 Hands with chemistry equipment 3:50 Close up of apples on a tree 3:53 Close up of a wheat field in the wind 3:57 Tall trees in the forest 4:05 Aerial view of Bryce National Park 4:11 Scientist working in chemistry laboratory 4:28 Bottle of Adipic Acid 4:38 Animation of a drop of acid with an animated molecule inside it 4:47 Bottle of Diamine 4:57 Beaker of Adipic Acid, Diamine and water 5:05 Animation of two animated molecules linking together 5:17 Linked molecules 6:10 Animation of Nylon fibre 6:27 Spool of Nylon in in front of the it makes clothing on a display table 6:35 Sheer clothing material 6:43 A spool of Nylon thread 6:47 Leg mannequins with Nylon hosiery 7:28 Husband demonstrating the strength of Nylons to his wife 7:44 Women’s legs with Nylons ‘Super Sheers’ disembarking from a car 7:54 Close up of women’s legs in Nylons while at work 7:57 Woman hanging up her Nylons on bathroom shower rod 8:09 Costumed showgirls exiting dressing room wearing Nylons 8:18 Soldier playing a Bugle 08:21 Soldier getting out of bed 08:29 Boeing B-29 bomber 8:42 Nylon parachute packed up 8:44 Parachutes soaring through the air 8:49 Aerial view of mountains in the Arctic 8:57 Tent in a field 09:01 Tent in pouring rain 09:07 Mildew on Nylon material 09:21 Nylon hammock in jungle 09:40 Man working in a laboratory 09:53 Workers in laboratory with spools of Nylon 09:57 Industrial textile machinery with Nylon thread 10:06 Shot of industrial machinery working with Nylon thread 10:15 Husband and wife sitting on bench 10:30 Business man showing Nylon fabrics 10:36 Nylon filament spools with business man showing to customers 10:47 Businessman advertising displayed nylon products to customers in show room 10:54 Opening credits for show: “The 4 Seasons” 10:57 Scene opens to a theatre stage with a constructed hill as a set 11:07 Children on running on the hill 11:11 children searching for Easter eggs at the base of a brick wall 11:14 Mothers gathered together in Nylon dresses and bonnets 11:23 Women displaying their Nylon bonnets and hats 11:46 Children gathered around a tree and passing around an oversize egg 12:00 Women in Nylon bathing suits throwing a big beach ball to each other 12:35 Mothers rounding up children as wind begins to blow 12:46 A thin curtain covers the stage, representing rain, as women and children pass behind it Nylon rainwear 13:16 A Nylon cloud hanging in the air 13:21 Women sat on a the hill which is now covered in snow 13:25 Men and women with skis walking across the snowy hill in Nylon ski suits. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k.
