Two versions are shown, one with exterior foil covering and one without. It's not clear which space suit design is shown; although it appears similar to those used in Project Mercury, it could also be a similar, modified version of the Goodrich U.S. Navy Mark IV high altitude jet aircraft pressure suit. A plastic adapter surrounds the middle of the suit, allowing the astronaut to be strapped into a weighted support gantry that can help simulate weightlessness. The tests shown, which must have been grueling for the subject due to the inverted body position, included use of tools and a simulated repair or device installation. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
