It was made by the famed director/producer of industrials, Jerry Fairbanks and written by Leo S. Rosencrans and Martin Foshaug. This is part 1 of 2. Opening: Creation of the solar system. The Sun. The Earth, a cold and lifeless body. Red hot molten core. Lava and rock cool. Volcanic rock erupts. Clouds are formed. Rains fell. Water fills the earth. Steam and water created canyons. Three quarters of the surface is water. Sun shines as skies clear. Rushing ocean tide. Title: The Boundless Seas (:08-3:26). Host Albert Hibbs speaks. Earth turns, water is three quarters of the earth's surface. 1969, Men walk on the moon. Astronauts bounce on the surface of the moon. Planet of Mars. No signs of life or water on Mars. Albert Hibbs speaks (3:27-4:58). Crashing waves of the ocean. Different types of ships on the ocean water. Dolphins swim at sea. 1872, HMS Challenger left England to circle the globe. They used nets and collected many new types of fish and sea creatures from the deep. Hibbs speaks. Research ship Alvin. Woods Hole, MA. Alvin goes below the water. Map of the world shows underwater mountain ranges (4:59-7:23). Alvin and crew ready to dive. A man uses a CB radio to communicate. Alvin is underwater, going down 12,000 feet. The ocean floor. Inside the Alvin with the men. The rocks on the ocean floor. Many different rifts. Molten lava pours out of the side of a rift far below the ocean's surface. Hibbs speaks (7:24-9:17). Iceland. Volcano erupts on Iceland. Sheep watch a volcano erupt at night. New volcanic rock, new water. In 1963, a new growing island, the  result of lava, was discovered in the sea. Hibbs speaks as he stands next to the ocean. Diagram shows ridges and plates. North American and African plates (9:18-11:07). Rubble after an earthquake. Hibbs speaks. Water of the ocean. A map shows how water moves around the world. Iceland. Farming and villages on Iceland. Greenland has ice masses. Currents of the sea shown on a map (11:08-12:56). Dr. Van Dorn speaks as he stands next to an ocean. Water movement and placement in the sea is discussed and shown. Flag moves in a breeze. Ship battles waves at sea. Waves need wind (12:57-14:17). Movement of a wave is shown. Hurricane as seen from outer space. Damage of water and waves due to a hurricane. Devastation on land. November 1977, damage to India after a strong storm. Tsunami waves are explained by Hibbs. A wave of a Tsunami builds and then withdraws. 1946, Hawaii, waters receded. An underwater earthquake occurred and a Tsunami hit Hawaii. The wave hits Hawaii and comes in fast and strong (14:18-17:09). Devastation after the wave hit Hawaii. 2200 miles from the quake, the Tsunami hit Hawaii. Nova Scotia, Bay of Fundy. Sea of Cortez in Mexico. Earth's tides are explained and shown on an animated earth (17:10-18:44). Southern California Grunions. The fish spawn on the beach. Tide crashes down on the shore. Two weeks later, the eggs hatch. Below the ocean. Torrents of water flow down a mountain's side. Submarine volcanoes. The ocean's floor (18:45-20:52). 1870s, mules hauled across the desert to California. Oil field. Hibbs speaks (20:53-22:20). Oil rigs at sea. North Sea. Waves are rough. Construction crews build a deep sea oil rig on the North Sea. Drill rig is a pumping station for new oil. Map shows Europe (22:21-23:43). Oil rig at sea. Men work underwater. Hibbs speaks next to the ocean. Ocean's waves move (23:44-24:38). End credits (24:39-24:48). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
