It follows Duke, a German Shepherd, as he joins the Baltimore K9 Corps. It was based on the 1966 book of the same name by Leo A. Handel. The second half of the film begins with a German Shepherd in front of a Washington, DC Metropolitan Police car (0:15) with the U.S. Capitol building in the background. The dog and handler walk by the White House (0:30); the Washington Monument (0:37), Lincoln Memorial (0:47), Jefferson Memorial (0:50), and Embassy Row (1:02). Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Stadium (1:24). A Washington Post banner inside the stadium (1:31) as the dog and handler search the VIP section for explosives. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (2:28), where bomb dogs often search for explosives. An American Airlines plane on the tarmac (2:54). A German Shepherd locates dynamite in a baggage cart (3:38). The film talks about the effectiveness of police dogs in public relations, such as requests for training demonstrations (4:47). Children watch a demonstration where a dog apprehends a purse snatcher (5:23). DC officer Richard Henry recounts how he and his dog responded to a holdup at 3000 Naylor Road (6:24). Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis, Minnesota (7:17), where police dog Rex and Officer Morrell help track a lost child separated from her mother. The officer fits the dog with a special tracking harness with a long leash (9:13). Tracking is also used to follow suspects. The lost child is reunited with her mother (10:45). At 11:22, Minneapolis Officer Mike Fisher recounts an incident where his K9 partner, Smokey, helped hold suspects at bay during an attempted assault. An officer and his dog help save a woman after she is attacked in Loring Park (13:50), where the dog finds a knife and black notebook with the suspect’s name.  A Commendation Award for Officer David R. Niebur (15:29). The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California (15:45), where the police dog unit started in 1962. Two San Francisco police officers respond to a burglary call (16:40). Bekins Van and Storage Company sign (16:43). An officer and his dog, Nitro, conduct a building search (17:42); they eventually find and apprehend the suspect (20:57). One officer recounts how he and his dog were able to respond to an off-duty construction site burglary and capture 13 suspects (21:15). Multiple officers testify to the importance of dogs in law enforcement (23:43). City of Baltimore 1797 seal (24:19). The film ends by emphasizing the importance of police dogs in crime prevention.
