It stars Frank Thompson, Irene Jones, Bill Nichols and Dennis Pedley. The tale begins as the narrator and father sits in a chair, smoking a cigar, recalling a memory from time shared in China together as his boy was on leave from his ship. The father plays with a small ivory statue. Flashback: On their trip, they visit an artist’s stall. The father is engrossed in the intricate workings of the artist and his son wanders off into the den of a century old Chinese singer; long since perished. The title screen (:20) leads to credits (:29). The ghost is played by Irene Jones. It is a Tee Kay film produced by Kathleen Jones (:45). The father lounges in red satin (1:04) sipping a whiskey high ball with a chewed cigar. He begins to explain time shared with his son while in China over ivory pieces on his side table (1:26). A male Chinese painter rubs a brush over an oriental fan piece (1:55). The artist covers legends from China in his work (2:07). A female singer’s voice rises over as the Navy serviceman wanders through an open field (3:10). The sailor continues to follow the high toned voice (3:40). The film turns to animation; a small Chinese pagoda opens in the woods (3:55). The female singer (4:12) sits on the ground. She pulls the beaded curtain aside to the sailors gold button down navy jacket (4:31). The pair enjoy tea together (4:50) over a silver platter. She shows a number of ivory statues (6:05). He sets his tea cup down (6:44) and heads back into the wood (6:58). The father pats the Chinese painter’s shoulder (7:07) and heads off to meet his son. Son and father meet (7:48) the son talks of his experiences with the young woman in the Chinese house (7:54). The pair enters a lightly wooded area where the Chinese girl who loved to sing had long ago perished (8:28). Close shots show the headstone of the singer (8:32). Eerie vocals cry over as the pair stands near a bamboo forest (9:05). The father peers at a tiny ivory statue (9:14) retrieved from the ghost singer. He stubs the cigar (9:42) and the film concludes.
