This was directed by James Fitzpatrick and produced by Chris Petersen. The film shows the new terminal area west of Sepulveda Blvd. This "jet age" area started opening in 1961 and as shown in the film, each terminal had a satellite building out in the middle of the ramp, reached by tunnels from the ticketing area. The film probably dates to after 1964, when the airport had achieved true international status with service by Aeronaves, Air France, JAL, TWA, UTA, Varig and Western in addition to Mexicana, Pan Am and SAS. The film begins with the International Court of Flags at the airport before showing images of some of the many airlines that fly there including Pan Am, Mexicana, Japan Airlines, Air France and more. At :52 the control tower is shown followed by the Theme Building and a parking lot that the narrator says will hold 5000 cars. At (1:15), shots from the theme building looking down into the parking lot. At 1:30, corridors to a satellite building where the gates are located. At 1:40, a destination sign shows flight departure and arrival information. The words "jet service" are shown prominently, indicating some flights are jet planes. At (1:52), a United 707 lands at the airport. At 2:05, passengers are shown in the terminal, while at 2:15, the United aircraft is shown on the tarmac and a passenger ramp deploys to deplane the passengers. At (2:50), baggage and cargo trucks arrive at the plane and freight is removed (3:11). At (3:30), the captain leaves the aircraft and walks across the tarmac. At (3:49) international visitors head towards the exits. At (4:15) the maintenance crew and mechanics are shown inspecting the parked aircraft, including the jet engines. At (4:30) the air traffic control tower is shown with its crew of controllers. At (5:40) a United jet taxis for takes off and a TWA passenger plane taxis across the runway to deplane its passengers. At (6:30) the sun sets over the airport as the activity at the airport continues. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k.
