The film was designed to illicit emotional responses from viewers over American involvement in the war. It shows the necessity for US support overseas. This second portion begins with Nazi bombing of Rotterdam. Nazi forces (:07) meet with the Dutch general; Henri Winkelman. He accepts German terms (:17). Nazi forces bomb the city regardless (:23). Great footage captures low flying German bombers (:29) over Rotterdam. Bombing ceases and smoke billows out (2:11). Aerial shots follow (2:23). Mutilated bodies litter the ground (2:29). The Nazi blitz runs over Holland (2:52). Luftwaffe head for the Meuse River Albert Canal (3:03). Flame throwers target dug out positions (3:28). Luftwaffe dive bomb (4:19). Machine gunners feed bullet belts (4:29). An assault engineer sets explosive charges near block houses (5:08). Nazi’s march off in columns (5:36). The RAF (19:44) zooms in to deliver aide for the suffering British army stationed there. Stunning footage captures the wake of waste below (20:06). Small allied suicide units (20:01) held the German army back. Anti-aircraft guns aim high (20:10). Firefighters water down burning buildings (20:21). Rescued British, French and Belgian troops (20:22) fill transport vessels. In France (21:00) the loss is calculated. Idle destroyers from WW1 sit in US harbors (20:48). The restoration process begins (20:58). Winston Churchill signs for the restored vessels (21:04). The US received bases near the Panama canal (21:14) in exchange for the vessels. Two million French POW’s (25:00) were carted to Germany to work as slaves or perish in an attempt to decrease the birth rate of the French (25:20). Scenes follow from Nazi work camps (25:33). Life following the invasion is explored (25:48). New York Times headlines relay war atrocities (25:53). Germans drive away from the Arc du Triomphe (26:15). The Palais Communal appears (26:27). French civilians listen to Nazi’s speak (26:38). Regiment flags are marched (27:19). Charles de Gaulle marches (27:30) as a symbol of hope for the French. de Gaulle and General Jiro Minami shake hands (28:06).
