The film expresses its main points through the story of a fictional soldier, Corporal Bud Benson, living on a domestic US Military base, who, due to events in his personal life, distanced himself from organized religion. After being assigned to being the local chaplain’s assistant for a week, Corporal Benson realizes how faith is central to community building and ultimately brings a sense of purpose and value to his life.
