During this era, Cuba became a favored destination for American tourists, particularly during the Prohibition era when looser restrictions on alcohol and nightlife were sought after. The 1930s witnessed a surge in luxury hotels and casinos in Cuba, attracting affluent Americans and solidifying the United States' economic and political influence in the country. This particular plane crashed and sank near Biscayne Bay near Dinner Key, Florida in 1943, with a loss of one life. (04:58) A man sitting on a boat in the harbor. (05:33) Two individuals riding a tandem bike. (05:38) Black waiter stands ready beneath a sign for "La Tropical Beer", probably in Cuba. (06:33) Friends sitting in a car. (06:55) Sign for Hotel La Concha visible in background. (07:24) A man fishing. (07:40) Footage of the Consolidated Commodore on water. (07:57) Dolphins swimming in the waters. (08:42) Footage of a dolphin jumping. (08:59) A pod of dolphins swimming. (09:56) Close-up footage of dolphins. (10:43) A man proudly displaying his catch. (10:51) A middle-aged Black woman posing for the camera. (11:11) Footage of downtown Havana. (11:34) A passenger ship displaying a fascist German flag. (12:11) Palm trees and fields seen from a car. (13:00) Swimming alligator, probably at an alligator farm in Florida. (13:35) Ostriches roaming in an enclosure. (13:43) Crocodiles in a zoo. (14:11) Close-up footage of crocodiles. (14:37) A crocodile sliding down a slide. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
