It was produced for Lumbermens Mutual Casualty Company by Traffic Safety Films Inc, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department. The focus of this public safety video is to build trust with the police department, educate on the importance of driving laws, and encourage drivers to respect those laws. The film begins with an Education Unit Police officer opening a binder titled “The Driver and the Law” (0:07-0:29). A 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Convertible cruises down the road. A Los Angeles police officer on what may be a 1938 Harley UH 80 motorcycle drives by (0:29-0:40). The driver runs a stop sign (0:41-0:55). The police officer sees it and pursues the car, turns on his siren, pulls the car over, and gives the driver a ticket (0:56-1:41). A smashed car is shown, and police roll a man into an ambulance (2:20-2:35). A driving school is shown with a young man practicing manipulating controls (2:58-3:20). A judge issues a verdict to a driver, who pays the fine to a police officer (3:21-3:52). An accident investigation unit uses chalk to indicate skid marks on the road behind an accident, a police officer examines their findings, and a female police secretary files the reports away (4:03-4:27). Officers discuss the reports, track all accident locations on a wall map, and make calls to report their findings (4:28-5:05). A deployment officer dispatches motorcycle officers, who pull out into the traffic (5:06-5:27). An officer types a press release on a manual typewriter and processes film reels (5:28-5:45). The film ends with the Education Unit officer talking to the camera, which fades to the training binder being closed (5:46-6:26).
