        <description>“Yesterday’s Newsreel “Benny Sent me,” provided viewers “television highlights of the news of yesteryear” by providing vintage clips of famous people and events from the first half of the 20th century. This upbeat episode highlights the momentous repeal of prohibition amidst the relief and joy of American citizens. The film begins with the narrator stating, “World War I is over and so are the days of alcoholic drinks. Convinced that self-sacrifice and sobriety will bring prosperity and peace as it won victory and war”, American’s praised passing the “Dry Law” and then promptly proceeded to repeal 18th amendment.” The short film opens at mark 0:30 with a man knocking on a door, another man looks through a peephole and opens after the man outside pay him. At mark 0:52 Andrew Volstead is seen covering his face with a hat. The next clip shows government agents confiscating and destroying bootlegging paraphernalia in Boston and then at a Florida swamp (mark 1:01) while onlookers look on as the narrator exclaims, “These homemade stills are but a few thousands seized and destroyed.” There are scenes of the infamous Al Capone as he is seen walking into then out of a courthouse as reporters and photographers film (mark 1:55), a crowded nightclub full of adults dancing and having a great time while pretty chorus girls entertain the crowd (mark 2:19). Foreign whiskey is confiscated from ships in NYC and dozens of longshoremen are arrested (mark 2:44); When talk of repealing the 18th amendment is brought up, we see a large group of women marching down the street in protest in Boston, another large crowd is seen storming the senate office building in support of the “Dry Bill.”(mark 3:30); At mark 3:36, Dry Leader Mrs. Lippincott is seen holding a petition with numerous New Jersey signatures in support of the “Dry Bill.” In the next footage, Women’s Christian Temperance Union leader Mrs. Poole speaks earnestly on camera about the effects repealing the law would have on wives (mark 3:52).  The film continues with several historic moments, such as members of Congress toasting the 19th amendment as it is repealed and President Roosevelt makes the beer beverage legal on March, 22 1933 (mark 4:36) and then full repeal goes to States several days later (mark 4:52). After a 13-year ban on the manufacture, sale, and transportation of alcohol, many American citizens were overjoyed at the repeal of the law. Starting at mark 5:45, the next few footage takes a look at several new stories including the newest dance craze called the Cat’s Step Wiggle with a man and woman showing off their impressive footwork, a shot of bestselling author H.G. Wells, Anita Paige and Fred Stone performing on a tight rope. Mark 7:20 features dangerous waves raging through a Massachusetts town and the property damage caused by the storm. Other noticeable footage includes Lieutenant Apollo Soucek donning an oxygen mask as he taxis off on a U.S. Navy plane (mark 9:20), fashionable look at women’s shoe wear in 1928 and men racing on horses in Saratoga Springs in 1930 (mark 10:13).
