Lowe Railroad near Pasadena, California. The first, filmed by cameramen dispatched by Thomas A. Edison, is a silent film that shows a trip up Rubio Canyon aboard one of the trolley cars. The second silent film, possibly a home movie from the 1920s, begins around 1:59. It starts at the base of the Mt. Lowe Incline Railway, a funicular that connected to the trolley system. At 2:18 one of the two funicular cars descends on the track. At 2:35 the trolley right of way is shown (the subject of the earlier Edison film). At 5:24 another silent film shows passengers boarding the funicular at 5:25 and ascending up the canyon. At 6:07 they board one of the Pacific Electric trolley cars. At 6:50 another film shows a view of the funicular roadbed. At 7:44 the Echo Mountain House, the terminus of the funicular, is shown with tourists eagerly looking out at the view. At 8:33 is a look at the Circular Bridge, the most famous part of the trolley line. The film ends at 9:06 with views of a scenic overlook which is still extant on the mountain today and, at 9:16, a shot of a mule car.
