In the film, a man receives a letter from his recently wounded brother on the front lines, who has undergone an amputation, as his carefree girlfriend telephones from a nightclub, attempting to persuade him to take the night off from his vital job at the factory. The refrain "the line is busy" mirrors the busy assembly line at the war plant. The film contains somewhat gruesome footage of an amputation in the field at the 1:30 mark.
