It appears to have been made by the US Airforce as an opening to a flying lesson for new cadets. There is no copyright at the beginning or end of the film so the date of the production remains unclear although it is either in the late 1930s or early 1940s. Titles: Official training film, War Department. A product of the first motion picture unit, Army Air Forces (:10-:30). Opening title: INTRODUCTION TO FLYING (:31-:38). A cadet speaks to the viewer. He says if you need to throw up, then throw up. (:39-1:35). A plane is shown. The instructor and student are shown. The student looks at the dashboard of the Stearman training biplane (1:36-2:12). Our narrator, the cadet, continues on. The B-17 bomber looks like it needs a big man to fly it, but a small Major mastered this plane (2:13-3:01). Keep the plane straight and level. Student tries to maintain as Instructor doesn't do much. Long shots of a small plane flying (3:02-4:31). Being safe is a priority. Don't lean against a plane, even if no one is in it - a mechanic might be working on it from a point you cannot see and it can be dangerous or even fatal. Common sense on the ground is the same in the air (4:32-5:54). Headgear should be comfortable not tight causing you a headache or too loose (5:55-6:48). Sit straight and center. Go slow while taxiing down the runway. A huge lesson is to teach yourself. Pay attention and learn by watching. Sit in a plane and get a feel for it (6:49-8:35). Our narrator wraps it up. Footage of an early flyer (8:36-9:48). The End credit (9:49-9:59). We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment!
