This film was executive produced by Sid Davis, an famous director and producer of non-fiction who specialized in social guidance films. It was written and directed by the team of Norman Rose, Denis Sanders and Arthur Swerdloff. The film demonstrates the techniques, which police academy students are taught to safely operate patrol vehicles during emergency driving. The film was made in cooperation with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department. An officer provides theoretical instructions on safe fast turnarounds for students in a classroom (01:03). He explains proper road positions of the car (01:15). A police car makes a turnaround on the practice track to demonstrate the instructions given to the students (01:47). The classroom lesson continues with detailed instructions on navigating in reverse and correct piloting of the steering wheel (02:03). A classroom of students learns about safe emergency driving on ‘Skid Pan” conditions, such as road position, steering control, etc. (05:17). Students attempt driving on the ‘Skid Pan’ track while instructing officers overserve and comment on the mistakes (05:58). Another classroom lesson is held on precision driving at high speeds (07:34). An officer demonstrates the lesson on the practice track with a student in the passenger seat (08:00) A narrow lane is formed by cones as a precision driving-challenge (08:14). An officer instructs on lane changes followed by a demonstration on the track (08:18).
