Founded in 1861 by Matthew Vassar, Vassar was the second degree-granting institution of higher education for women in the USA; it didn't become co-educational until 1969. The film includes footage of the campus grounds and buildings, and shots of students on bicycles, swimming, picnicking, riding horses, dancing, and dressed up to perform a play (4:00). It also includes what might be a May Day celebration (5:00) and graduation ceremony (6:00). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction.
