It was apparently shot by a Japanese businessman whose company visited the exposition en masse. The event was held at two venues in the city, Kanazawa Castle Honmaru and Dewamachi Drill Ground, from April 12 to June 5, 1932. The driving force behind the expo was the goal of revitalizing Kanazawa, which had been in decline since the depression of the early Showa period. The Shanghai Incident of 1932 broke out during the exposition, and there was a debate as to whether it should continue. Instead, a decision was made to incorporate a national defense theme into the exhibits and a National Defense Pavilion and Manchuria and Mongolian Pavilions were added. 0:00 The opening of the film shows workers from a factory in Toyama Prefecture lining up for the train tide to the expo in Kanzawa, in Ishikawa prefecture. At 0:54, workers patiently wait at the railroad platform. At 1:16, scenes shot from a moving train. At 1:27, workers are guided towards the entrance of the expo from the Kanazawa train station. A streetcar moves in the background. At 1:55, some of the workers look at a lake with decorative elements. Footage of the expo entrance and grounds begins at 2:21, including a pagoda and streamline moderne buildings. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you.
