The film's soundtrack shows various scenes related to protests against the Vietnam War. It was shot by William Ling, who was a student at the time. The film shows some of the protests known as "Operation Dewey Canyon III' that included members of the Vietnam Veterans Against the War. The demonstration was given its name, "Operation Dewey Canyon III", in reference to U.S. military operations in Vietnam known as Dewey Canyon I and II. Some of the aspects of these offensives included secret incursions into Laos that were never reported to the American people. The soundtrack to the film includes a song by the Jefferson Starship, snippets of TV or radio news coverage, as well as the haunting poem "The Contrapuntal Civilization" by an anonymous writer. The poem begins: "I have died in Vietnam. But I have walked the face of the moon. I have befouled the waters and tainted the air of a magnificent land. But I have made it safe from disease..." The film starts with shots of protestors sleeping on April 24, 1971, the day of the main march. 500,000 people demonstrated against the Vietnam War — the largest-ever demonstration opposing a U.S. war. Lincoln Memorial in background (2:05) and Washington Monument (2:13). March reaches Capitol Building (2:45). Vietnam veterans, including members of Vietnam Veterans Against the War, march and speak at the Capitol (4:00).
