The film shows a modern portrait of cattle ranching in the West, showcasing the difficulties of raising animal herds in tough environmental conditions. The film begins with the journalist arriving in Gunnison by steam train, and then picked up by Gus in a Ford pick-up truck. The film lovingly and respectfully shows the homestead ranch.
