The filmmaker, who was a Chicago-based accountant, traveled all over the world and filmed many of his adventures. The title card at the beginning "Chateau Hutter Films Presents", refers to a European-style resort that Hutter built in Door County, Wisconsin. Apparently Hutter hoped to show this film and others to visitors there, but the resort never hit its stride due to a series of disputes between Hutter and the local chamber of commerce. Opening titles: Chateau Hutter Films Presents A John Hutter Travel Adventure - Historic St. Augustine - Oldest City in the United States (:09). John Hutter sits by a fireplace at Chateau Hutter (:34). He points at a map of Florida and St. Augustine, Florida (:51). A sign reads: Castillo De San Marcos National Monument; shots of the monument (1:15). Sides of the monument (2:31). Inside the monument (3:13). Horse and carriage; old cabin (3:53). Horse and carriage rides around St. Augustine (4:11). Car drives down a street past a house (5:04). Girls play baseball in a park (5:34). Grace United Methodist Church behind tall palm trees (5:54). Older homes of St. Augustine (6:59). Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine (7:26). People get into a carriage being pulled by a horse around downtown St. Augustine (7:58). At (8:00) the African American driver assists two soldiers who are passengers. Old people in a park (8:22). An African American nanny watches a white child in a stroller (8:40). Seaside; cars and houses (8:45). Statue of Ponce de Leon seen from behind (8:50). Pink flowers, a hand goes through the flowers (9:25). Old men, probably retirees from New York, play cards at tables (9:52). A woman hands wood carvings -- probably polished tree roots -- to two little boys; then they hold coconuts painted to have faces (10:20). Close up on the odd wood pieces followed by the coconuts (10:54). Here's a strange sight -- goats pull an ornate wagon covered with junk and fixtures (11:44). Goats (12:10). An eccentric hillbilly or tramp emerges from the back of the wagon (12:25). Group of alligators; some move slowly (13:20). Marine Studios, the world's first oceanarium, now known as Marineland. A man feeds jumping dolphins (13:49). Dolphins swim underwater; stingrays in the water (14:10). Sharks, filmed behind glass, swim by (14:45). End credits (15:54). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you.
