It begins with shots of artillery (:30) firing into the jungle. What might be a temple complex surrounds the fire base (1:29). At 2:54 a soldier is seen walking through a plantation. At 4;52 soldiers search huts for signs of V.C. weapons or equipment. At 6:35 a sergeant makes a radio call on a field phone. At 7:50 soldiers including South Vietnamese Army patrol a road. At 7;12 a slate reads 30 July 1967, First Brigade. At 8:50 a woman sits by the side of the road with two children, eating. At 10:20 a woman speaks to the soldiers. At 11:51 a slate reads 10 July 1967. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara speaks to the press at 12:54. At 13;50 a helicopter ferries the Secretary to his next destination. At 15:20 views of the U.S. fleet, presumably in the Gulf of Tonkin. At 16:44 a helicopter hovers over a ship with a "35" emblazoned on the deck. This is most likely a barge or mothership for the small patrol boats. At 18:00 McNamara''s helicopter appears and lands on the ship. At 18:50 McNamara is given a briefing on the deck of the ship, and various small patrol craft are shown. This includes CCB C-91-1, a Command and Control Boat that was part of the so-called Brown Water Navy. At :21 aerial shots over a Vietnamese town or city. At 22:44, a firebase launches shells at the enemy. At 25:30, close shots of a gun crew in action. At :33, troops board a Chinook helicopter for transport into combat. At 33:25, close shot of the rear rotor and at 33:31 the chopper takes off. At 34:40 a Chinook is shown picking up supplies using a sling. At 35:32 slate reads July 3 1967, Dongtam, shots of Huey helicopter landing at an airstrip. Soldiers wait nearby at 35:50. At 37:28 a whole fleet of Hueys lands and the soldiers embark. At 38:00 an L-5 Birddog artillery spotting plane lands and at 38:30, a flying crane helicopter is shown as well as another Chinook. At 39:20 a twin engine cargo plane lands at the field. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k.
