Ayds was a diet candy that was marketed as an appetite suppressant. It was available in flavors like chocolate, butterscotch, and chocolate mint. The candy was introduced in the United States in the mid-1940s and was discontinued in the late 1980s. Ayds contained phenylpropanolamine, which was designed to suppress hunger and reduce caloric intake. Ayds was a convenient and tasty way to control weight, and Hollywood celebrities endorsed it in the late 1970s, which increased its popularity. However as the Acquired Immune Deficiency or AIDS epidemic emerged in the 1980s, the weight-loss product's similar name caused consternation and eventually, the product line was abandoned.
