This toon was intended to have been the first of a series of instructional shorts made for the Navy in the style of the irreverant "Private SNAFU" series — with "Tarfu" standing for "Things Are Really Fouled Up". The toon was written by Theodor Geisel aka Dr. Seuss and Phil Eastman, with narration by Mel Blanc and Robert C. Bruce. The short was produced by Hugh Ising and Rudolf Ising, who founded the Warner Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer animation studios. Although the Tarfu character held promise, the end of World War II and the demobilization that followed meant that this would be the only Tarfu toon ever produced. Incidentally, Private Snafu had another brother, named Fubar, in addition to Tarfu. Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed.
