Schley. Schley was a skilled filmmaker from Wisconsin who made a series of films under the moniker "Schley Ride" or “Schley Focus Ride” through his company Picturelogue Inc. Some of his films aired on television, while others were shown in front of live audiences. This particular account, which is predominantly silent and the second installment of a four-part series around Hawaii, takes viewers along on a guided tour with the Circle Island Sightseeing Bus around the Island of O’ahu. Unlike the first-part of this installment, this film emphasizes the natural wonders of the island as opposed to the bustling city of Honolulu. The majority of the footage depicts remote beaches, valleys of green as seen from Nu‘uanu Pali Lookout, and the farming and agriculture industries dominated by Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co and Dole. “Schley Ride to Hawaii'' is historically significant for the insight it offers into the development of Hawaii, and in this case Honolulu and the Island of O’ahu, in the years after Hawaii officially became the 50th state of the Union in 1959.
