<description>Hastily created immediately after Pearl Harbor, "Democracy in Action" was part of the "Food for Freedom" program, and released by the Department of Agriculture to encourage greater productivity in the nation's farm belt. The movie describes how the last two years have set productivity records for United States agriculture, but that more work is needed given the desperate demands of the looming conflict. From cotton used to make uniforms and bandages, to meat and grain used to feed troops or the tobacco the troops smoke, the film is a call to arms to the farmer. The film ends with scenes of troops eating food and notes that the average soldier requires "400 pounds of meat per year, 24 gallons of milk and 250 pounds of vegetables" and that "18 men behind the men behind the guns" are needed in the war effort. After looking at the different things grown including corn, wheat, soybeans, cotton, meats, eggs and dairy. It ends by showing how important these are to feeding soldiers, those that produce war equipment, and ensuring a high standard of living for those in the United States. 0:08 US Department of Agriculture Agricultural Adjustment Administration presents “Democracy in Action”, 0:18 narrated by Duncan Wall and directed and photographed by Tom Hogan, 0:39 Franklin D.
