It was directed by A.R. Taylor and photographed by famed cinematographer Skeets Kelly, and copyright 1948. Cadbury, formerly Cadbury's and Cadbury Schweppes, is a British confectionery company now owned by Mondelez International. It was established in Birmingham, England in 1824, by John Cadbury, a Quaker who sold tea, coffee and drinking chocolate. Cadbury was one of the big three British candy manufacturers throughout much of the 19th and 20th centuries. Opening title: Cadbury Brothers presents COCOA HARVEST (:06-:28). Gold Coast in Africa. Trees. A village in West Africa. Little children smile. Lots of people mill about, cars are parked. Mothers carry babies, wares are for sale in the marketplace (:29-2:34). Children play, dance, in the school yard. Children do stretches and exercises, some run. Children in class being taught by a teacher who uses a chalkboard (2:35-4:12). People head into the jungle to harvest the cocoa. A man hacks at a tree with a machete. People carry baskets on their heads and fill them with cocoa pods. Cocoa pods are cut off trees. Pods are cracked and open and beans are scooped out by women and children (4:13-6:15). Women grab the beans and throw away the pod. Men hack at the pods to open them. A child eats. A man hacks a tree and cuts it down. Leaves are cut and spread out (6:16-7:44). Leaves are carried and placed on the ground. Pods being opened continues. A woman carries away some beans in a basket on her head. Leaves are moved around and put on the ground (7:45-9:26). back in the village, people walk around. Children peel and a woman mixes and crushes. Two children play a game. Cocoa beans are matured, men sift through them (9:27-11:27). Beans are ready to be sold. Beans are packed into sacks. Carried off by men. A clerk looks over the sacks. Crop is weighed. Sample beans are looked at on a tray to gauge how good the sample is (11:28-13:25). A man pays another for his sack of beans. Men carry off the sacks of beans. Trucks drive off with the sacks. A busy port, ships stay off shore. Smaller boats take the sacks and bring them to the larger ships. Boats with the sacks on them, men carry sacks of beans (13:26-15:11). Boats are filled with sacks, the tide comes in. Boats are then rowed to the ships. Boats come and go to the ships as men row. Men continue to row (15:12-17:28). A man climbs onto the ship with a paper in his mouth, an invoice. Ships have the sacks hoisted onboard and place into the hull. The man climbs down the side of the ship back to his boat. Another helps him board his boat and they back toward shore again. Boats pass boats (17:29-18:54).
