This 1950’s era movie highlights the many tourist attractions in Hawaii focusing mainly on the islands of Honolulu and Hilo. Traditional Hawaiian scenes are highlighted as we follow a typical Hawaiian family from the husband’s job in the sugarcane fields in Hilo to a short vacation to see the sights in Honolulu. The movie opens with an animated map of the Hawaiian Islands. There are eight volcanic islands which form the archipelago. The animation names each of the islands and points out the largest cities on the islands. The animation goes on to show how winds hit the islands. The animation shows how clouds absorb the wind cooling the air causing rain 1:20. People walk through the tropical rainforest 1:45. A man picks a banana from a bunch on a tree 2:00. Boys pick coconuts by climbing the trees 2:15. Aerial view of Honolulu 2:35. Different cultures are featured in Hawaii 3:05. The second largest city in Hawaii shown: Hilo with a population of 35,000 3:35. We see the home of the Bright family, a typical Hawaiian family 4:10. Children play in the schoolyard 4:30. A teacher teaches from the blackboard 4:40. The teacher explains volcanoes to the children since they live on a volcanic island 5:11. Footage of an erupting volcano 5:25. Lava explodes from a volcano and rolls down the mountain 5:38. Vegetation and everything in the lava path is destroyed 5:50. The volcanic soil of the Hawaiian Islands is fertile and active 6:20. Farming abounds. Mr. Bright looks over the sugarcane fields 6:40. The sugarcane leaves are burnt at harvest time 7:05. A crane carries sugarcane stalks and drops them into a bin 7:20. Huge loaders scoop up the cane stalks 7:28. Sugarcane goes up conveyor belts to a washing process and into the mill 7:48. The raw sugar is then delivered to ships which carries it to the mainland 8:05. Pineapple fields are shown 8:15. A large machine and several men harvest the pineapples 8:28. Pineapples are handpicked from the plant and put on a conveyor belt to be processed by the machine 8:45. Pineapple cannery is shown 8:58. An automated machine measures the size of the pineapples 9:10. Women put sliced pineapple in cans, 9:25. Cases of canned pineapple are loaded on freighters to be delivered to the mainland 9:45. Mr. Bright travels by plane to Honolulu to visit his main office 10:00. Aerial view of volcanic cones 10:37. Parker Ranch one of the largest cattle ranches to be found in the entire world, 11:00. Men on horseback roundup the cattle 11:20. The plane lands in Honolulu 11:30. A large cruise ship is shown 11:54. The statue of King Kamehameha I who united the islands in 1795 12:14. The Iolani Palace 12:39. Nuuanu Pali lookout 13:03. Pearl Harbor Naval base, 13:24. The American flag is raised over Pearl Harbor 13:34. Aloha Week and a parade ensues 14:00. A traditional Hawaiian thatch hut and a man mashing taro root 14:35. The hula dance 14:45. Diamondhead volcano and the beach at Waikiki 15:15. Surfers catch some waves 15:27. The tourists board a plane to Hilo 16:20. The ʻIolani Palace was the royal residence of the rulers of the Kingdom of Hawaii beginning with Kamehameha III under the Kamehameha Dynasty (1845) and ending with Queen Liliʻuokalani (1893) under the Kalākaua Dynasty, founded by her brother, King David Kalākaua. It is located in the capitol district of downtown Honolulu in the U.S. state of Hawaii. It is now a National Historic Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. After the monarchy was overthrown in 1893, the building was used as the capitol building for the Provisional Government, Republic, Territory, and State of Hawaii until 1969. The palace was restored and opened to the public as a museum in 1978. The Iolani Palace is the only royal palace on US soil. Kamehameha I, original name Paiea, byname Kamehameha the Great, (born November 1758?, Kohala district, Hawaii island—died May 8, 1819, Kailua), Hawaiian conqueror and king who, by 1810, had united all the Hawaiian islands and founded the Kamehameha dynasty, the most-enduring and best-documented line of Hawaiian rulers.
