It features a brief glimpse of Hawaii and it's world famous surf and sand. The film was produced by Norman Gluck (:39). Picturesque shots capture the sand, blue waters, sunbathers and a mountain rising in the background (:52). Surfers roll over waves in the birthplace of surfing (Hawaii) (:59). The ‘World's Greatest Surfer’ is seen ready to begin a surf school to which beginners and experts alike would travel the world to get to (1:18). Women lounging in the sand in bikinis are known as ‘beach bunnies’ (1:27). Pairs roll out onto the waves conducting stunts (1:40). Waves must be four feet high for optimum surfing (2:12). The band "The Hawaiian Surfers" play music along the waters edge (2:43). A Pan American passenger plane unloads riders onto the island at Honolulu International Airport (3:17). Gift shops with thatched roofs follow (3:32). Dolphins jump into the air in unison (3:32). Hula dancers swing their hips with flowery wreaths wrapped around their heads (3:47). One wave rider clutches a Keoki surfboard (3:55). The camera zooms in on one of the girl’s hula skirts here (4:36). Surfers ready their boards with a layer of wax (5:29). A slow motion sequence shows a surfer on a wave (7:08). The bonsai pipeline crumbles as the rider moves through (7:31). The King of Surf is revealed to be Jose Angel and he closes out the film (8:46). Motion picture films don't last forever; many have already been lost or destroyed. For almost two decades, we've worked to collect, scan and preserve the world as it was captured on 35mm, 16mm and 8mm movies -- including home movies, industrial films, and other non-fiction. If you have endangered films you'd like to have scanned, or wish to donate celluloid to Periscope Film so that we can share them with the world, we'd love to hear from you. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k.
