It opens with a caravan of camels in the desert, the ancient Roman Marcus Aurelius Arch, the Gurgi Mosque in Tripoli, the Turkish fort Burouj Buleila. Fisherman, farmers, and oil rigs at work. The Oasis Group (aka the Conorada Group) is a consortium composed of three U.S. oil companies: Amerada (now Amerada Hess), Continental (now ConocoPhillips), and Marathon. Bidding independently, the companies won concessions throughout Libya during the first auction of oil rights in 1955. Following the concession awards, the Oasis companies pooled their acquisitions. Palm-lined streets, shopping arcades, mosques. Islamic worshipers come to prayer. Old Town markets, people greet, shop for textiles and crafts. Artisans throw and paint pottery, weave, hammer copper plates. 10:23 Tripoli’s harbor. A driver mounts a Kenworth oil truck moves through the city. 11:25 The truck pulls into the pipe yard. 11:42 Workers clear the desert of land mines. 12:58 A De Havilland U-6A Beaver airplane surveys the land for signs of oil. Laying down geophones. Thumper trucks lift and drop 5 a ton weight, the shock of the weight is recorded in a seismic truck. 14:23 Lab technicians study seismic readings. 14:37 A truck of oil finding equipment and material cruise along desert roads. It arrives at a desert warehouse facility. Large tanks pump and store water. Hangar-like garages maintain vehicles. Cranes remove pipes from tractor trailers. Drilling materials. A doctor tends to an injured worker. A radio operator calls in for additional supplies. A C-47 cargo plane lands on a desert airstrip. 17:07 A crew operates an oil rig, churning out dirt, drilling, fixing broken machine parts. 17:54 Illustration of the expansive oil camp. 18:23 Core samples are taken at a rig. Crews examine the samples to determine how close they are to oil. Travelers arrive on commercial flights. Beach comers enjoy the beaches. Office workers, city life. The Royal Palace at Tripoli. Doctors examine children,  kids attend schools. Citizens play volleyball, tend orchards and farms, work in factories, offices, and science labs.
